Pitchproof · Android
Privacy Policy
Effective 22 October 2026 · Applies to the Pitchproof Android app (com.emptyfire.pitchproof)
Pitchproof collects nothing. There is no account, no network access, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party SDK. The microphone is used only while the tuner is on screen; audio is analysed in memory and is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
1. What this policy covers
Pitchproof is an offline chromatic tuner and metronome for Android. This page explains what the app does with your information. It does not cover the Google Play Store itself: purchases, downloads and store analytics are handled by Google under Google’s own privacy policy.
2. Information we collect
None. We do not collect your name, email address, account, device identifiers, advertising ID, location, contacts, photos, usage analytics, crash reports or audio. We cannot sell or share information we do not have.
| Data collected | None |
|---|---|
| Data shared with third parties | None |
| Account or sign-in | None |
| Network access | None — the Android app has no internet permission |
| Analytics, ads or third-party SDKs | None |
| Audio recordings | None |
| Microphone | Only while the tuner is visible; audio is processed in memory and discarded |
3. The microphone
Pitchproof needs the microphone for one thing: measuring the pitch of the note in front of it. The first time you open the tuner, the app explains this and Android asks for permission. If you decline, the tuner explains how to turn the permission on and the metronome continues to work; nothing else in the app is gated on the microphone.
While the tuner is visible, short slices of audio are analysed on the device to estimate a frequency. The audio is never written to storage, never kept, and never transmitted. When you leave the tuner, open the metronome, or put the app in the background, the microphone is released. The metronome does not use the microphone.
You can change the permission at any time in Android Settings. Revoking it leaves the metronome fully usable.
4. Settings stored on your device
The app stores only the settings needed to remember how you left it:
- instrument preset, reference pitch, temperament and key;
- tempo, beats per measure, subdivision and per-beat accent states;
- click sound, click and tone volumes, and whether the click mixes with other audio;
- keep-the-screen-on, appearance, and whether the microphone explanation has been shown.
These values stay in the app’s private storage on your device. Android backup is disabled for Pitchproof, so they are not copied to Google or to another device. They are removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data. They are never sent to us.
5. What Pitchproof never does
- It does not record or save audio.
- It does not send anything over the internet — the Android build has no network permission at all.
- It does not use analytics, crash-reporting services or advertising SDKs.
- It does not track you across apps or websites, and it does not use an advertising identifier.
- It does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, files or accounts.
6. Purchases
Pitchproof is a one-time paid app. Google Play processes the payment and any refunds. We do not receive or store your payment details, card number or billing address. There are no subscriptions and no in-app purchases.
7. Children’s privacy
Pitchproof collects no information from anyone, including children. The app has no ads, no accounts, no chat, no user-generated content and no external links beyond the support email address. It is suitable for all ages and is not directed to children under 13 in a way that would require verifiable parental consent.
8. Your choices
- Turn the microphone permission on or off in Android Settings.
- Change or reset the app’s settings inside the app.
- Remove the stored settings by clearing the app’s data or uninstalling it.
- Contact us with any question. Because we hold no personal data on a server, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on your behalf.
9. Changes to this policy
If the app’s data practices ever change, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change. The version shipping in the app and the Data safety answers in Google Play will be kept consistent with this page. Material changes will be reflected in the store listing.
